Bentonite Clay as a Natural Remedy: A Brief Review
نویسنده
چکیده
BACKGROUND From old times, the human kind has used clays, externally or internally, for maintaining body health or treating some diseases. Meanwhile there are few scientific articles reviewing the beneficial effects of clays on body function. Bentonite clay is one of the available clays in nature, used as traditional habits, and remedies in many cultures. METHODS These articles explored among 2500 scientific articles published in PubMed to sort the scientific works have been done on the effects of this clay on body function (it was about 100 articles). RESULTS Bentonite has a broad range of action on different parts of body. CONCLUSION As traditional remedies seem to have a deep root in maintaining body health, it merits doing more research works on bentonite clay and its impacts on body function.

Evaluation on Mechanical Stabilities of Clay-Sand Mixtures Used as Engineered Barrier for Radioactive Waste Disposal
In this study, natural bentonite was used as natural clay material and samples were taken from the Kalecik district in Ankara. In this research, bentonite is the subject of an analysis from standpoint of assessing the basic properties of engineered barriers with respect to the buffer material. Bentonite and sand mixtures were prepared for tests. Some of clay minerals give relatively higher hydr...

Schistosoma mansoni cercariae were removed from clear and turbid water by flocculation with Sudanese bentonite clays, with Moringa oleifera seeds as well as with pure bentonite. The flocculation technique employed corresponds to that used to clarify Nile water in Sudanese villages. Moringa seeds, pure bentonite and one type of bentonite clay were able to reduce the number of cercariae by more t...
متن کاملAdsorption of copper and zinc from aqueous solutions by using natural clay.
In this study, removal of copper (Cu(2+)) and zinc (Zn(2+)) from aqueous solutions is investigated using Cankiri bentonite, a natural clay. During the removal process, batch technique is used, and the effects of pH, clay amount, heavy metal concentration and agitation time on adsorption efficiency are studied. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherms are applied in order to...
متن کاملRemoval of Copper(II) and Cadmium(II) ions from Aqueous Solutions Using Banana Peels and Bentonite Clay as Adsorbents
Adsorption removal of Cu(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solution using low-cost banana peels (a food waste) and bentonite clay (natural resource), was investigated. The adsorption process was studied in a batch scale at mean operation parameter which were pH, adsorbent particle size, adsorbents dosages, and initial concentrations of metal ions. All experiments were conducted at room temperature. L...
متن کاملClay Mineral Liner System for Leachates Containing Organic Contaminants
A conventional liner with a good performance against inorganic contaminants with a minimal hydraulic conductivity does not usually perform well for retention/removal of leachates containing organic contaminants. Organic modification of clay can render the naturally organophobic clay to be organophilic. Incorporation of modified organo clay along with unmodified inorganic clay in liner systems c...
